Chapter
Eighteen
Oversleeping wasnât something I did often, but when I did, I went all out. Waking up when homeroom was forty-five minutes in was the tip of the shitty-day-iceberg that was about to sink my ship.
If Iâd known what was coming, I would have pulled the covers up over my head and stayed in bed. Why did Illyria have to be such a twat? She would have been a great friend to have with those visions of hers.
I threw my frizzy curls into a high ponytail and pulled on a headband. The leggings and hoodie I threw on didnât enhance my look at all, but that didnât matter. We had work due in several of our classes that day, so skipping wasnât an option, and I had no time to do more than brush my teeth.
Iâd made it to the end of the wing where our second class took place when the intercom crackled to life. It was rarely used, so when it came on, everyone assumed it was for something important.
When the first sounds came over the speaker, my step faltered. The next ones, even louder, made my mouth fall open. I stared at the small black box mounted to the wall.
Someone was playing porn over the fucking intercom! How old were we? I was under the impression this was basically graduate school, yet someone was resorting to juvenile pranks. What idiot administrator had allowedâ
That voice. I knew that voice like it was my own.
Because it was.
The moans grew louder, reaching a fever pitch. Holy shit, someone had recorded me when I was about to come. There was no denying it was my voice.
And Darrioâs. âYouâre so⦠fuck, Red. Youâre everything.â
More moaning and panting filled the air as I looked around wildly. Classes were ending and students were beginning to mill around, filling the hallway as they eyed each otherâs reactions.
âDonât. Thatâs for me.â
My face was on fire. I remembered that moment, when Iâd reached down to touch myself and Darrio had caught my wrist.
âThen you should probably take care of it, huh?â
Those were the first words Iâd actually spoken on the recording, and while not everyone figured it out, several heads whipped in my direction. My voice was so thick with desire, I flushed a shade darker and ducked my head. I had to get the hell out of there. Screw classes, screw assignments.
I spun on my heel and tore back toward the residence hall, desperate for the protected solitude of my bedroom.
âDarrio, please.â
âPatience, Red.â
Our voices followed me as I ran, mocking the intimacy of the moment Iâd shared with Darrio. And then, because thereâs no justice in the world, I rounded a corner and ran smack into Heath Connor.
He reached out and gripped my shoulders before he realized who I was, preventing me from falling back onto my ass. My messenger bag slid off my shoulder and hit the floor, the contents scattering as the flap at the top opened on impact.
As soon as he realized who he held, Heathâs grip tightened from firm to painful.
